Iran said Monday that it controls the Strait of Hormuz after a pause in strikes in the war over the weekend.
Reuters noted that multiple state media outlets in Iran, citing an unidentified source, reported that Tehran had forced back six ships trying to go through the strait on Monday without clearance from the Middle Eastern country.
“As previously announced, the traffic route in the Strait of Hormuz is the route specified by Iran, and other routes are contaminated and have no way out,” the source told the outlets, according to the news service.
On Saturday night, the U.S. and Iranian militaries did not exchange fire for the first time in almost two weeks of back-and-forth strikes sparked by alleged violations of a ceasefire agreement signed in June.
An Iranian health ministry spokesperson confirmed no new attacks had taken place, according to a social media post.
“It seems our dear Iran had a peaceful night last night, and no part of its body was struck or hit,” Hossein Kermanpour wrote in a post translated from Persian. “Iran’s body is intact. Iranian head is healthy.”
The war between the U.S. and Iran, nearing the five-month mark, has stressed the global economy, raised oil and gas prices and strained American relations with historic allies. The conflict has also proven unpopular among the American public in recent polling.
At least 18 members of the U.S. military have been killed during the Iran war, with the Iranian Health Ministry reporting more than 3,400 deaths in the country.
