Republican voters in South Dakota will once again head to the polls Tuesday to weigh in on a heated gubernatorial primary runoff.
Gov. Larry Rhoden (R) is vying for a full term leading the Mount Rushmore State against Republican businessman Toby Doeden. Neither candidate secured over half of the vote in a June 2 primary to avoid runoff.
Rhoden, who became governor after former Homeland Security Kristi Noem was elevated from her post by President Trump trailed Doeden by 5 percentage points in the initial primary — spelling trouble for the incumbent Tuesday. The president has not weighed in on the race in the ruby red state.
