Mullin says migrants will be 'deported wherever they are' after Trump urges ICE to continue traffic stops

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin on Wednesday did not address whether immigration agents will halt traffic stops in response to a call from President Trump to continue the practice, instead attacking Democrats he said have helped the public “defy” U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Trump early Wednesday said the country “CANNOT give up one of I.C.E.’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools” following reports the agency planned to temporarily halt the practice.
ICE on Tuesday would not directly confirm the shift in the practice, and Mullin on Wednesday also stayed mum, instead noting the agency is still conducting enforcement.
“Our #1 goal is to keep our officers safe and get criminals OFF our streets. Illegal aliens will be arrested and deported wherever they are. If you are here illegally, LEAVE NOW. As our officers carry out operations to enforce our nations laws,” he wrote on the social platform X.
“We remind illegal aliens attempting to evade arrest is dangerous.”
Though he did not name them, the remark is Mullin’s first to even indirectly acknowledge two fatal shootings in the span of a week in which ICE officers killed migrants.
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was killed in Houston, while Joan Guerrero was killed in Biddeford, Maine.
ICE has claimed Salgado Araujo used his vehicle as a weapon — claims other witnesses in the vehicle said are completely false.
ICE has also claimed Guerrero was fleeing officers and shot him as they perceived him to be a threat to public safety.
Mullin blasted Democrats he accused of aiding migrants, saying Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) hosted a webinar “providing tips for illegal aliens to evade arrests at homes, workplaces, or in public” while Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) “posted a video online calling on illegal aliens to make a plan for ICE encounters.”
