Trump posts examples of alleged Reflecting Pool vandalism amid push for Pirro to revisit decision

President Trump on Saturday posted photos of alleged vandalism to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool amid a push for U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro to revisit a recent decision to drop charges related to the pool.
Late Saturday, the president posted two photos of what appeared to be graffiti and some peeling of the coating of the pool. Both photos were labeled with the word “Vandalism.”
Trump is pushing for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to backtrack on its move to drop criminal charges against people accused of damaging the site. The president pressed for Pirro to “re-visit her hastily made decision” on Friday.
Pirro’s office has stated contractors who undertook renovation efforts on the pool were behind the damage.
Trump posted a screenshot of a post on the social platform X which he claimed showed proof of vandalism in the pool.
“The material was cut right where the video tape showed, for 300 feet or more. People were on their knees with their hands in the water at the exact location of the ‘slashes,’” Trump wrote. “Additionally, there were witnesses to the VANDALISM, and the flexible areas of the material were cut with a knife.”
The president has previously seemed to point to vandalism to divert blame for the water quality of the Reflecting Pool and maintenance problems in the wake of a renovation project, in which he had the pool drained and coated in “American flag blue” paint.
Trump suggested that fertilizer had been poured into the pool to cause the expansion of algae blooms, also previously claiming that vandals used a box cutter or knife to slice a nearly 300-foot slit through the pool’s coating.
