The blockade, which was lifted last month, went into effect at 4 p.m. EDT, the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) said, touting that over 20 U.S. Navy warships and hundreds of military aircraft are operating in the Middle East.
“American forces remain vigilant, lethal and ready,” Centcom said.
Hours before the blockade, which was lifted on June 18, the U.S. carried out a round of strikes against Iran for the fourth day in a row, looking to deplete Tehran’s ability to target commercial vessels attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz, the key waterway that around 20 percent of the planet’s oil and gas flow through.
Iran targeted two United Arab Emirates tankers in the strait with cruise missiles, the UAE Ministry of Defense said on Monday.
Kuwait’s military said its forces intercepted one Iranian ballistic missile, five cruise missiles and 33 one-way attack drones. One Kuwaiti Navy vessel was targeted, with four soldiers sustaining injuries.
President Trump nixed his proposal from Monday to impose a 20 percent tolling fee on cargo transiting the waterway and would instead discuss trade and investment deals with Gulf nations, he announced Tuesday morning.
“We will therefore have a FULL Blockade, but only on Ships coming to and from Iranian ports, or carrying anything have to do with Iranian cargo,” the president wrote Tuesday on Truth Social.

President Trump announced on Tuesday that he would scrap his proposal yesterday for a 20 percent tolling fee on cargo transiting the Strait of Hormuz, and would instead pursue trade and investment deals with Gulf states.
